Stand in the Rain

{June 25, 2007}   6 Months till Christmas!

Did anyone notice that today is 6 months till Christmas? Just a thought…

One essay done, one to go! I have till the end of the week…this should be no problemo at all. This past essay was on suspense, and discussing how the author sustains suspense in the story “Leiningen versus the Ants”. If anyone’s ever seen the MacGyver (season 1 or 2 I think) where he’s on a plantation in Brazil, and the plantation is attacked by killer ants (like, 20 square miles of huge ants), this story is so similar to that show that I’m guessing the MacGyver was based on this story. Anyways…it’s really creepy…but it’s a good story if you ever get a chance to read it. I think the next essay I’m going to write will be Using examples from Don Quixote and other sources, defend this statement: “You are what you read”. That should be fun. Enough about essays and school and all that yucky stuff… :P

Camp is in about 2 and a half weeks…and I’m so excited…for one very big reason in particular. I GOT A NEW TENT!!! lol You may be thinking, “why is she so excited about getting a new tent??”. Well…you’d understand if you’ve seen my old tent. It’s a teeny tiny green and white 3′x4′ tent that is about 3 1/2′ tall. Yup…(well at least that’s what it feels like). My mattress curls up the sides of it and I feel like I’m sleeping in a hammock, even though I’m laying on the ground. I’ve been in that thing for two years now…and it was getting slightly annoying. I got kicked out (well more like I left) the other tent we have, cuz my brother snores…and also it’s too crowded, even though it’s a huge tent. Air mattresses tend to take up a ton of room. So I got this blue and orange 7′x9′ dome tent. It’s sooo much better…and the picture looks nice. :D I haven’t set it up yet…I don’t want to take it out of the bag until we go camping just in case I can’t get it back in. lol I’m a bit challenged when it comes to fitting tightly compacted things into small bags and stuff like that…well I guess everyone has that problem. So now I’ll be able to put my mattress lengthwise, instead of diagonally. 7′ is more than long enough for my mattress…and 9′ is even bigger. lol I’m so happy :D . I know it’s just a tent…but when you’ve had to sleep in a puny little tent (and don’t have room to even stand up bent completely in half…and don’t have room for anything besides your mattress and sleeping bag…), well you appreciate getting a new tent. So that’s my exciting news of the day. :P Whoohoo right? Yeah…

The Virtual Voice is out…finally. Take a look. http://amdec.mycourses.ca/virtualvoice/index.html My story is under the “Life” tab, and it’s called And the winner is… The same story is in the PACE Yearbook, but with a slightly different ending. It took them long enough to get the VV published :| but it looks pretty good now…I haven’t had a chance to read through everything, but I’ll try to do so when I have more time…1 more essay!! lol

I just saw my mom head upstairs with a box of macaroni and cheese and a head of cauliflower…very odd. I think I’m going to go and see what she’s planning on doing with those two ingredients…I suppose cauliflower mac’n'cheese would be interesting…

{June 22, 2007}   Friday Night Fiddling

Tonight I’m going to a fiddle competion.  No, I’m not competing (wish I was…but I didn’t have enough time to get ready for it).  I’m just going to see what’s up and how it all works.  After tonight, I think I’m going to see if I can get a few lessons with a fiddle teacher and get pointers on the basic different techinques and stuff like that.  Then I’m hoping to get into competitions later this summer.  Oh…and record a CD of course!  Although I need to put together a bunch of peoples to do that…well…kind of.  Guitars, piano, drums, etc.  That’s something I’ve always wanted to do.  Maybe this summer I’ll get around to doing something like that…hmm…I think I need to make a list of things to do this summer like MB did… :D

There…I successfully dodged 5 minutes of essay writing and chemistry doing…lol  ;)

This weekend was kind of a blur…have you ever noticed how when you do something fun/cool/awesome usually two or three fun/cool/awesome things happen all within a few days?

Well the contra dance on Saturday night was so much fun. My partner was Phil, and neither of us had any clue as to what we were doing…but it actually turned out pretty good. It wasn’t that difficult…it was quite easy to pick up. My apologies for stepping on anyones feet…lol :P . Although it seemed that just as we were getting the hang of the dance, it was over…and then a new one started and we were all mixed up again. But that was the fun of it. Oh, and I discovered after the dance (as we were leaving) that you could fill up your water bottle in the kitchen behind that little room where we practiced at the beginning. And it was cold water…why do you always discover these things when it’s too late?? lol

And then of course there was the pool party at Kevin’s. And now I know I can beat Peter in a sword fight using only my left hand…teehee. Well I did have the longer sword…but he had two hands. Anyways…I managed to escape with two mosquito bites. Kevin, you have to do something about those mosquitoes…they’re insane…there’s too many…you need to make a bug spray bomb or something…hmm…that might be fun. Well at least they don’t bite me too much :D . But I have this huge horse/deer fly bite on the back of my neck…it’s gigantic. I’m sure the poison got into my spinal chord and tried to paralyze my neck…lol Or at least that’s what it felt like. That was yesterday…today it feels like somebody hit me with a baseball bat across the back of my neck…a big improvement :P . Oh and here’s our salute picture…someone’s “brilliant” idea… ;) You’d be able to see more if Zack wasn’t in front of everybody…but you get the idea…lol It was when Hannah and Jocelyn were leaving…

The Sendoff

Oh and Ken, I’m going to teach my brother that dance you taught me…it was so much fun! He may not appreciate it as much…oh well.

So that was my weekend…too many things happened to cram into this blog…but we were all there. And it was fun. And we’re happy. And school’s almost done. And I had an idea. But I can’t tell you yet. Stay tuned to Seeboard. You’ll find out soon enough. Oh and Barney says hi. You were really mean to him at the party. He says he might not come back to any of out parties. I said that was fine. He stuck his tongue out at me. I stuck mine back out at him. He left. I can’t find him now. Actually I think my brother knows something about that. Although I can’t imagine Barney letting my brother take him somewhere. After all, my brother gave Barney an unnecessary tracheotomy. Poor Barney. Not really. :P

{June 15, 2007}   My very own blog!

Yes…I’ve finally come into the 21st century…I have a blog! I’m still figuring out how exactly this all works…but it’ll likely take me only…oh a couple hours at most. :D Yes, I know my blog title is a bit random…but I’m not very good at coming up with things on demand…it’ll do for now. And my URL is a bit odd too…lol but I like it. And if you’re wondering if it’s Miss Matched Socks, or Missmatched Socks…well…the answer is yes. :P

On the subject of school (I was just reading MB’s latest post) I finished the last of my English literature units today…wrote the test…so now I only have 3 essays to write and I’m done English. Which is good…cuz I must say, English is not my favorite thing. Chemistry is coming along good too…well…as good as can be expected. 7 modules left…a bit behind but that’s basically all I have left. Thankfully, my violin exam is over…now I have a lot more time. After that’s all finished then I can start my summer reading (Human Anatomy…or Advanced Biology)…which I’m looking forward to very much.

And that’s all I have time for now…I can pretty much guatuntee that I will not be posting as often as my enthusiastic brother. But that’s ok…he’s got more time that I do. Ya’ll can add me to your blogroll…that’d be much appreciated. Thanks!!
